Rainbow residents find fun for everyone

On a bright, windy day, the community of Rainbow gathered at Rainbow Park on Fifth Street for the 13th Annual Rainbow Days Picnic on Saturday, May 26. The event is put on by the Rainbow Property Owners Association (RPOA) with the help of every civic organization in Rainbow: Rainbow Valley Grange and Junior Grange, Rainbow Volunteer Fire Department, Rainbow Planning Group, Vallecitos PTO and Vallecitos School District.

While the Grange held a bake sale, the BBQ lunch was prepared by volunteer fireman/RPOA board member Robert Williamson and RPOA board president Craig Ohlson. The PTO conducted a plant sale at the school with plants and trees donated by 26 local nurseries; proceeds will go to the Vallecitos interscholastic athletic program.

Two other area groups were also present; Mission Resource Conservation District manned a booth that gave out information on water pollution prevention, water conservation and soil fertility, while Rainbow Against The quarry informed residents about the proposed quarry and provided an opposition petition for them to sign.

RPOA board member Art Deming ran the raffle with prize drawings every half-hour. The grand prize was a $100 bill donated by Ohlson. Proceeds will help fund RPOA community events throughout the year.
