More mail means more problems

It is no surprise that the amount of mail we receive in our mailboxes continues to grow. Most roadside mailboxes have the capacity to hold this mail but many others do not. Residents who have small-size post office boxes at Fallbrook Post Office may need to pick up their mail daily to prevent overflow conditions that result in the mail being bundled and held in back for pickup.

One of the provisions of renting a post office box is that the mail will be picked up promptly to avoid accumulation. When customers fail to pick up their mail, incidents like the one described in a letter to the editor in this paper last month could occur. Several bundles of mail could be held for pickup that contain other mail-related notices unseen until later by the box-holder. To customers whose boxes often overflow or who cannot pick up their mail regularly, I suggest renting a larger box.

Fallbrook Post Office delivers mail to 19,623 mailboxes every day, six days a week. Every day Fallbrook employees deliver 117,738 pieces of mail. Occasionally, service issues will arise. When they do, the Postal Service would like to be contacted as soon as possible to make needed adjustments. But unfortunately, we are unable to assist customers who prefer to remain anonymous or refuse to provide their addresses.

The quickest way to report a service issue is to call the toll-free Postal Service Help Line at (800) ASK-USPS. Information you provide will be recorded and electronically transmitted to the local post office and the district’s Consumer Affair’s Office. Together, these two offices ensure that issues are addressed promptly.
