Lizzul seated as CWA rep from Camp Pendleton

Daniel M. Lizzul was seated as the new Camp Pendleton representative to the San Diego County Water Authority board.

Lizzul replaced Ed Rogers, who spent 12 1/2 years on the CWA board, at the CWA’s May 24 meeting. “It’s a great honor to be here at this seat,” Lizzul said. “I know that I am filling some very big shoes here.”

Although Rogers has retired from the CWA board, he remains the facilities manager for Camp Pendleton. The availability of Lizzul to replace Rogers as the CWA representative allows Rogers to focus on other facilities items at the base. Rogers is also Lizzul’s supervisor; Lizzul is the director of the Office of Water Resources at Camp Pendleton.

“I’m just excited to be back in Southern California, back in Camp Pendleton,” Lizzul said.

Lizzul obtained a Bachelor of Arts degree from Fordham University and a law degree from the University of Miami School of Law. He was on active duty in the United States Marine Corps from 1983 to 2004, and from 1992 to 1996 he served as the special counsel for water rights at Camp Pendleton.

Lizzul retired from the Marine Corps as a Lieutenant Colonel, and his final active-duty assignment was as the senior special assistant for the four-star admiral who commanded the U.S. Naval forces in Europe. His NATO duties had him stationed in Naples, Italy, and after his retirement he remained in Naples as the president of the Navy League of the United States’ Naples Council from 2005 to 2007.

In addition to serving as Camp Pendleton’s office of Water Resources director, Lizzul is also the chair of the Camp Pendleton Water Steering Committee which is responsible for the strategic planning of water and wastewater for Camp Pendleton. “The issues are even more interesting and challenging and exciting than they’ve ever been,” he said.

During the 2007-08 session Lizzul will serve on the CWA’s Engineering and Operations Committee and the Imported Water Committee. As a public agency the CWA has defined board terms and Lizzul’s six-year term officially expires on January 12, 2008, although CWA member agencies can reappoint a board representative for a new six-year term.

“I know that we’ve established a terrific environment here,” Lizzul said of the CWA. “I appreciate the atmosphere very much.”
