Daughters of British Empire induct new members

The Excalibur Chapter of the Daughters of the British Empire (DBE) met recently in the Activity Room at Silvergate Retirement Residence. Four new members were inducted into the chapter. Another recently inducted member is Gina Meacham Pellegrino, bringing the current membership to 58. An enjoyable lunch provided by Silvergate was followed by a tour of the residence.

The DBE was founded in 1909 and at the present time there are seven chapters in San Diego County. The primary objective of the DBE is the support of four District Homes for retired men and women, each located in one of four regions across the nation.

During the meeting fundraising proposals were discussed, including fashion shows, a space at the Community Garage Sale and a second printing of last year’s very successful cookbook, “Recipes, Ramblings, and Reminiscences.” A “just for fun” raffle was won by Rosemary Sterling.

Club membership includes women of British Commonwealth birth or ancestry, or whose husbands meet those requirements. They meet mostly for fun and fellowship. For information about the DBE in Fallbrook call Margaret-Ann Ashton at (760) 728-8509.
