Nora passes

Nora slipped quietly away on Monday morning, June 4, held by people who loved her so much. Nora was a special “elegant lady” who reined as the supreme matriarch in the cat playroom. She could often be seen “holding court” on her pillows in her special corner by the door, surrounded by her kitty cat friends and her brother, Nick.

Nora and Nick came to us about three years ago and set about promptly winning us over as their servants. Nora had a quiet, content life and brought joy and laughter to those of us who loved her.

I wish to take this opportunity to sincerely thank the Village News, Nora’s doctor and all of those who made donations to help with Nora’s surgery and expenses. Without your kind generosity, Nora’s surgery would have been a financial burden for our small sanctuary.

I know Nora would want me to pass on her doctor’s words of caution: that mammary cancer is almost totally preventable by getting your pets spayed or neutered before the first season (five to six months of age). We love each of our pets individually and it is important to protect each of them for who they are, not for who they produce. Please, get your pets spayed and neutered!

Our hearts are sad, but we know Nora is now in a better place, waiting for us. Thank you.
