Fallbrook Chorale, Youth Ensemble to perform June 23

FALLBROOK — The Fallbrook Chorale and the Fallbrook Youth String Ensemble will present “There’s No Business Like Show Business: A Celebration of Broadway” on June 23, at 2 p.m., in the Bob Burton Performing Arts Center on the campus of Fallbrook High School, 2400 South Stage Coach Lane. There will be one performance only.

In the immortal words of one of America’s most popular songwriters, Irving Berlin, “There’s no business like show business.” Featured in the 1946 Broadway hit musical “Annie Get Your Gun,” the tune became an instant hit and has since been dubbed the unofficial anthem of the American Theater. Several songs written by Berlin will be featured in the concert, along with music from Rogers and Hammerstein’s score from “South Pacific” and Andrew Lloyd Webber’s “The Phantom of the Opera,” among other pieces.

The Fallbrook Youth String Ensemble will join the Fallbrook Chorale for the first time. This group of 10 gifted young people (ages 11 to 19) is under the direction of professional cellist Barbara Martin. With the support of the nonprofit Fallbrook Youth Scholarships and a grant from the Staples Foundation, the group has been growing in stature and maturity, playing locally at a variety of small venues. This shared concert with the Fallbrook Chorale will introduce this impressive group of talented young people to the community.

Tickets are available at Major Market or at the door. Military are free, as are children accompanied by adult.
