Flogging Molly's Matt Hensley to perform with Brehon Law

This Saturday, Fallbrook music lovers will have the chance to enjoy the music of Matt Hensley, recently retired from the popular band Flogging Molly. He will be performing with Brehon Law at J.J “Purty” Landers.

Ned and Brenda Giblin, owners of J.J. Landers, have known Hensley and been playing music with him for about a decade. “I met Ned ten years ago when he had to ask me to stop playing my accordion in his pub because he didn’t yet have a live music license,” said Hensley, laughing. “We’ve been playing together ever since.”

Hensley is the former accordion/concertina player for the well-known American Irish/punk band from Los Angeles signed to SideOneDummy Records. Very recently, he retired from the constantly touring band to spend more time with his 9-year-old son, Oliver, and open Hensley’s Flying Elephant Pub and Grill, located in Carlsbad, where he plays every Thursday night.

Hensley gives a lot of credit to the Giblins for helping him open his own pub. “I can’t say enough about how much they’ve helped me,” he said.

Talking with Matt and Ned, it’s apparent they enjoy playing together and it really is “friends down at the pub having a good time.”

According to Hensley, Saturday’s music will consist of the usual songs – “Whiskey in the Jar” and all the traditional Irish tunes, reels and jigs. J.J. “Purty” Landers is located at 125 South Main Avenue in Fallbrook. The live music starts at 9 p.m.
