Amateur Radio Club Field Day June 23-24

FALLBROOK — The Fallbrook Amateur Radio Club will be participating in Field Day 2007, an emergency preparedness exercise, June 23-24. The public and ham radio operators are invited to visit the site at Frazier Elementary School’s athletic field, 1835 Gum Tree Lane.

Maps and latest information available on http://www.fallbrookarc.org. Talk in frequencies 146.175+ 107.2 and 445.600- 107.2. Set-up begins June 23 at 7 a.m .; on-air operations take place from 11 a.m. June 23 to 11 a.m. June 24, when tear-down begins.

The premise of Field Day is to prove that, in an emergency, amateur radio operators (“hams”) are capable of setting up radio stations in the field and, by using portable antennas and emergency power (generators, batteries, solar, human-generated), are able to contact as many other groups around North America doing the same thing. There are over 2,500 clubs, groups and individuals that participate in Field Day.

During emergencies and natural disasters, normal modes of communication such as telephones, cell phones and the Internet usually become overloaded and fail. It is during these times that licensed amateur radio operators fill the void and serve their communities by passing along health and welfare messages to non-affected areas of the country.

The public is invited to come out to Field Day and see what it’s all about. There will be plenty of experienced and friendly people to show participants around and perhaps guide them through on-air contacts.
