CROP Walk 2007 results

More walkers participated than ever before. Two new churches participated. It was a festive event. Some people think that helping the hungry is somewhat sad. Hunger is sad, but giving those in need an opportunity to build livelihoods and recover from disasters is a joyful event. This year’s total almost reached $69,000. Twenty-five percent, or $17,250, went to the Fallbrook Food Pantry. They did not receive a full match from San Diego County but will instead, in all likelihood, receive $12,000. That means the CROP Walk generated $29,250 for local needy.

We did not reach the totals we acquired in 2004, 2005 or 2006, but that does not mean that the compassion of our community has been reduced. Just recently, three local pastors visited Malawi, Kenya and Uganda. They were active in planting trees, helping orphans, fighting AIDS and education.

At one time the congregation I attend donated $5 per year to fight world hunger. Last year more than $100,000 was collected to share for those in need.

Fallbrook is compassionate and I am thankful that those congregations who have connections with specific developing nations still participate in the CROP Walk, which helps 85 nations with over 60 years of experience in growing food, improving health, strengthening communities, ending conflicts and working for justice for those they serve.
