Oceanside wins May Senior Cribbage match

The May Senior Cribbage Challenge was a cake walk for Oceanside. With 32 players in the match, Oceanside won 59 games with 13 skunks, compared to Fallbrook’s 53 wins and 3 skunks. The Oceanside peggers won seven of the top eight places.

Leading the way was Bob Rebar with 6 wins and 3 skunks. In second place was Glenrose Sheffel, who won all seven games. For the Senior Challenge the American Cribbage Congress scoring system is used. A win counts 2 points and a skunk is 3 points. This gave Rebar 15 points to Sheffel’s 14 points. In third was Jean Cunningham, who also had 6 wins but only 2 skunks.

Norm Peterson, the top Fallbrook player, placed fourth with 5 wins. Following the leaders were Chuck Grow, Lilo Mendizza and Marge Schultz, each with 4 wins and 2 skunks.

Mendizza also won a $25 gift card donated by Albertsons at 3925 Mission Avenue in Oceanside.

Senior Cribbage Challenges are held on the fourth Thursday of each month and consist of seven games. The next match will be held June 28 at the Vista Elks Lodge, 1947 East Vista Way.
