'Art of Grilling' demo to support FAVB

FALLBROOK — The Fallbrook Area Visitors Bureau (FAVB) proudly presents a demonstration on “The Art of Grilling” with renowned author and teacher Denis Kelly on Saturday, July 14, at 11 a.m. in Fallbrook’s Village Square. The one-day, open-air event includes live demonstration on the barbecue, recipes from his book, a signed copy of his recently released book “World Grilling,” wine tasting by Baily Vineyard and lunch. This is an excellent opportunity to meet a professional chef and learn the secrets of grilling and barbecuing.

Kelly is a well-known San Francisco Bay Area writer and teacher and is the author of numerous books and articles on food, wine, beer and gastronomy. “World Grilling” was published by Sasquatch Books earlier this year. Another book on outdoor cookery, “Grilling & Barbecuing: Food and Fire in American Regional Cooking,” was published in 2003 by Stewart, Tabori & Chang.

Kelly is co-author of the bestselling authoritative guide to meat, “The Complete Meat Cookbook” (Houghton Miflin), as well as two award-winning cookbooks, “Hot Links and Country Flavors” (Knopf), which won the Julia Child Award, and “Tom Douglas’ Seattle Cooking” (Morrow), which received the James Beard Award in 2002.

Other books include “Creole and Cajun Cooking,” “Flying Sausages” (Chronicle), “Aidells Complete Sausage Cookbook” (10 Speed), “Grilling” (Williams Sonoma), “Steak and Chop” (Williams Sonoma) and “Mastering Beef and Veal” (Williams Sonoma). He was a contributor to the meat and poultry sections of “The New Joy of Cooking” and wrote the text of “Essentials of Grilling” (Williams Sonoma).

In addition, Kelly has published articles on wine and food in Gourmet and Vintage, Wines & Spirits and has lectured extensively on wine and food to groups such as the Smithsonian Institution and others. He currently teaches humanities at St. Mary’s College in Moraga, CA.

All are invited to join the FAVB to celebrate an American tradition and study “The Art of Grilling,” all while raising funds for the new Visitors Center. Space is limited. To register, call the FAVB at (760) 451-3283 or e-mail [email protected].
