FGMS members win at fair

DEL MAR — Of the 18 Fallbrook Gem & Mineral Society (FGMS) members who entered displays in the San Diego County Fair, each won in at least one of the categories entered.

Meg Berry won two first place awards for a mixed display of minerals and a faceted stone with rough-advanced, while Michael T. Evans took third for a mixed display of one minerals and Liz Yamaguchi entered an educational exhibit.

Mary C. Fong Walk took a first and a second place for her one-mineral specimen in San Diego County (Advanced), a third place for Fossil of the Year (Trilobite) and a first place for one fossil worldwide. John P. Frey won first place for his entry of a mineral specimen in San Diego County (Advanced) and third place for an entry of a fossil worldwide.

Kerith S. Graeber was awarded third for her entry of a lead mineral, first for five minerals specimen, one mine, worldwide, and second for five mineral specimens, one county.

Charles C. Graeber won a first place for five pegmatite minerals, worldwide, a first for five mineral specimens, one mine, San Diego County, a first place for one mineral specimen.

Daina Krigens was awarded a first place for her specimen of petrified wood worldwide, while Hugh Lawrence took second.

Richard C. Mayer took third for his entry of a one mineral specimen, personally collected. Don and Bonnie Parsley took second for their entry of jewelry constructed with stones.

Al and Mary Rosea were awarded second place for their mixed display of all one mineral, full case. Allen Rose was awarded second for one fossil, any size, self-collected, while Erik Rose entered a fossil trilobite.

B.J. Cheatum received an award of merit for his educational exhibit. James N. Walker placed first for one Fluorescent Mineral (Long or Shortwave Case), first for Mineral of the Year (Lead Minerals, one specimen) and third for Mineral of the Year (five specimens).

Claudia Watson received third place for her entry of one mineral specimen (not San Diego County, Master) and second place for her Fossil of the Year. John Watson received first place for Mineral of the Year (Lead Minerals, five specimens), second place for Five Pegmatite Minerals (worldwide), third place for Five Pegmatite Specimen (one mine, worldwide), second place for an entry of Mineral Specimens (worldwide, Master, Full Case) and third place for his entry of Five Mineral Specimens (not San Diego County, Master).
