Encore Club rocks back to the '50s

FALLBROOK — The Fallbrook Encore Club hosted their annual Summer Party on June 22 at Sharkey’s Beach Officer’s Club at Camp Pendleton. The ’50s theme was a big hit with 118 attendees from both the Encore and Newcomers clubs joining in the fun.

Poodle skirts, rolled-up jeans and bobby sox ruled the day and there were even a couple of “wigged out” hippies on hand. Photos from guests’ teenage years (including one mug shot) were on display, to the great delight of all present. Trying to match photos with their owners was a fun challenge.

After a typical ’50s dinner of hamburgers, hot dogs and root beer floats, party-goers participated in a bubble-gum-blowing contest and a hula hoop contest. Then, members of the group danced until dawn (okay, maybe 11 p.m. or so) with oldies music provided by a DJ.

Party coordinators Dottie Lord and Jeanette Siefert created a memorable evening for the tired but happy gang that cruised home to Fallbrook.
