Fireworks illegal, dangerous

FALLBROOK — Every year, during get-togethers to celebrate the Fourth of July, thousands of Americans are needlessly injured by fireworks. Fireworks are not toys and can cause serious injuries and, in some cases, even death.

The long-term risks are not worth the momentary pleasure fireworks bring. One bottle rocket can set off a devastating fire that can put homes, loved ones and firefighters in harm’s way.

North County Fire Protection urges residents to celebrate the holiday by attending professional displays instead of purchasing and using their own fireworks. Professional displays are the safest way to enjoy fireworks because they are conducted according to established regulations.

There is no such thing as “safe and sane” consumer fireworks. All fireworks, other than those in licensed public displays, are illegal in San Diego County.
