FBK girls win softball tourney

The Fallbrook Girls Softball League (FGSL) 8U All-Stars swept the French Valley Girls Softball Association’s “The Heat is On” All-Star Tournament on June 23 and 24. The team won all of their games during the tournament.

In Pool Play on Saturday, the Fallbrook team dominated Peñasquitos in a 12-0 game ended in the fourth inning by the “Mercy Rule” and then went on to beat tournament hosts French Valley in a close 5-4 battle. An outstanding 17 runs scored and only 4 runs allowed positioned Fallbrook as the number-one seed for the following day’s Bracket Play. The team returned on Sunday to again defeat French Valley, this time 4-2, in the semifinal match-up and then handed San Marcos a 3-1 loss in the championship game.

“It was a site to behold,” said manager Gary George. “The girls played like professionals and it was really great to see the hard work pay off. Our defense, offense and pitching were just phenomenal. Most folks would never believe these are 8- and 9-year-old players!”
