Gordon Raymond Ferrell

Gordon Raymond Ferrell, 89, a retired business owner, has died. Gordon was born in Rock Springs, WY, to Raymond Warden Ferrell and Mary Adelaide Gordon on June 28, 1917.

He was the youngest of four children and grew up in Garden City, KS, until the age of 18, when he moved to California. He worked at various jobs, including that as a bank teller. He worked for Lockheed during the early part of WWII in Northern Ireland and then enlisted in the US Army. He worked as a staff sergeant and, after the war, was part of the occupation force in Japan, where he met his wife, Anne Elizabeth Hines, who also served in the Army and was part of the occupation force.

He has two children, four grandchildren and a great-granddaughter. He has a step-daughter and two step-grandchildren. He owned a dry cleaning business and laundromat in Los Angeles until his retirement in 1982. In 1983, he married Jeanne Fernand and they moved to Fallbrook, where they spent their time landscaping, gardening and enjoying retirement. He loved sports, talking about politics, gardening – especially growing tomatoes – and a good bacon and egg breakfast.

He is preceded by first wife Anne and son Michael. He is survived by second wife Jeanne; daughter Kathleen; daughter-in-law Polly; grandchildren Makiyo, Spencer, Alina and Guru Narayan; great-granddaughter Hadley; step-daughter Kathy and her husband, Dan, and their children, Matthew and Charlie.

A memorial will be held to celebrate his nearly 90 years of enjoying life on July 21, 2007, at noon at the home of Polly Ferrell, 317 Lewis Lane, Laguna Beach. Call (949) 494-3976 for directions. Donations can be sent in lieu of flowers to Fallbrook Hospice.
