Luau to raise funds for Wells

There will be a “Wheels for Andy” luau on Sunday, July 29, from 3 to 7 p.m. at Rainbow Community Park on 5th Street in Rainbow. The fundraiser was originally planned to pay for a customized tandem bike for Andy Wells of Rainbow, a recent eighth grade graduate who has cerebral palsy. A generous family has since anonymously donated the bike, so organizers are now planning to raise money for related expenses including insurance, maintenance and storage.

The luau will include Polynesian-style barbecued chicken, Hawaiian sweet potatoes, honey baked beans, pineapple upside down cake and drinks, all of which is being donated by local residents. The cost is $10 for adults and $5 for children 10 and under. Attendees are invited to bring lawn chairs, pop-ups, blankets and sports equipment as well as wear Hawaiian-style clothing. Colorful leis will be provided. There will also be a $100 grand prize raffle at 5 p.m.
