Bronco All-Stars win section championship

For the first time in recent memory, the Fallbrook Youth Baseball Bronco All-Star team has won the San Diego Section Championship. They will have the honor of representing San Diego in the Regional Championship in Whittier beginning Thursday, July 19, at 5 p.m.

Fallbrook entered the tournament as the third seed from the North San Diego Divisional Tournament, behind both La Costa and Carlsbad, respectively. Fallbrook got a tough draw in the double elimination Sectional tournament, having to face the number one seed from South San Diego, Mira Mesa.

After defeating Mira Mesa 4-3 on Saturday, they played La Costa, the number one seed from North San Diego, on Sunday. Fallbrook beat La Costa by a score of 6-3, with the help of two homeruns and stellar pitching.

On Wednesday, Fallbrook defeated the number two North seed, Carlsbad, by an 11-2 score. Fallbrook brought their bats to this game, slugging out 15 hits, five of them homeruns.

Friday night was a rematch, as Carlsbad came back through the loser’s bracket. The Carlsbad Gold team quieted Fallbrook’s bats and played flawless defense to hand the undefeated Fallbrook team their first loss, 8-0. This forced an “if” game on Saturday to determine the champions. Fallbrook jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first and that run was enough to secure the championship. Great pitching and timely defense proved to be the difference in the championship game.

Manager Clay Hampton said, “I am so proud of the way these guys bounced back after Friday night’s loss. This was a total team effort!”
