Abel and team head to Rio de Janeiro

INDIANAPOLIS — Later this month, the United States Synchronized Swimming National Team, which includes Brooke Abel of Fallbrook, will leave training in the San Francisco Bay area to head to Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, for the 2007 Pan American Games.

For the first time in the sport of synchronized swimming, the Pan Am Games will serve as the qualifier for the Olympic Games. Team USA must bring home gold medals in order to secure an Olympic berth. With the increased importance placed on the Pan American Games, the United States hand-picked its team in April, marking the first 2008 US Olympic Team Trials for any sport.

Additional members of the 2007 United States Pan American Synchronized Swimming Team include Janet Culp, Littleton, CO; Kate Hooven, Pleasanton, CA; Christina Jones, Fremont, CA; Becky Kim, Walnut Creek, CA; Meghan Kinney, Mission Viejo, CA; Andrea Nott, San Jose, CA; Annabelle Orme, Walnut Creek, CA; Jillian Penner, Seattle, WA; and Kim Probst, Troy, NY.
