Supervisors authorize contract for sidewalk repairs

The San Diego County Board of Supervisors authorized the advertisement for bid and subsequent award of a contract to repair various sidewalks, curbs, gutters, ramps, and driveways throughout the unincorporated area of San Diego County.

The supervisors’ 5-0 vote July 25 also established $400,000 of appropriations for the contract. Bid packages have been structured with a base bid consisting of the minimum number of locations along with additive alternatives which are clusters of locations which can be added to the contract. All of the Fallbrook repairs are covered under the base bid.

In addition to repairing the sidewalks and driveways, curbs and gutters will include curb ramps to provide disabled access and tree roots will be pruned to minimize further damage to the sidewalks and driveways. The work is scheduled to begin in September and to last three months.

The county’s Department of Public Works has an inspection program to determine the segments designated for repair under the contract. DPW also requested input from community planning groups and community sponsor groups about sidewalk locations in need of repair.

The Fallbrook sidewalk repairs will upgrade 85 square feet on the west side of North Main Street, 300 square feet on the west side of South Mission Road, 100 square feet on the west side of South Main Street, 260 square feet on the south side of Aviation Road, 50 square feet on the east side of Old Stage Road, 25 square feet on Senwood Way, 25 square feet on Barbados Circle, 25 square feet on the west side of Potter Street, 80 square feet on the west side of Shady Glen, 135 square feet on the east side of Shady Glen, 400 square feet on the south side of Via Belmonte, 912 square feet on the north side of Via Belmonte, 370 square feet on the south side of Dulin Road, 25 feet on the west side of Lake Circle Court, and 120 square feet on the south side of Lakeshore Place.

Curb and gutter improvements are planned on Alturas Road, North Main Street, Merida Drive, Fallbrook Street, Carlton Way, Golfview Drive, Laketree Drive, and Via Belmonte. Driveway improvements are scheduled on Alturas Road, South Mission Road, and Dulin Road. Root pruning is slated on North Main Street, Old Stage Road, Shady Glen, Fallbrook Street, Carlton Way, Laketree Drive, Via Belmonte, Dulin Road, and Lake Circle Court.
