Fallbrook Design and Review Board incompetent

This is an open letter to the so-called Fallbrook Design and Review Board, the issue being your bullying and punishment of local businesses because of signs you do not approve of or you think the county would not approve of.

As I have been making signs for business owners in Fallbrook since the late ’60s, I have some knowledge about this issue. Because I, and other merchants, have lost money due to your nonsensical anti-small-business, anti-sign, so-called Fallbrook beautification agenda, I thought it time to speak up.

You have made a mockery of signs and have shown yourselves to be irresponsible and incompetent. I have documented examples of the results of your lame-brain decisions. One month there is a handsome sign on a roof where it belongs; the next month that sign is sitting in a stake bed truck looking like something out of Tijuana or some third world country, all because of your grandiose scheme for a beautiful Fallbrook. Your interference in the business of signs has made Fallbrook less attractive, not more attractive.

Business owners have never needed permission from anyone to put up signs and I advise my clients that they do not need your permission. Fallbrook’s charm and character has come about through the free expression of individual business owners, sign makers and local residents, not some committee of radical do-gooders. You should be showing support for all businesses in this town. Instead, you have chosen to show your contempt solely because you find one of our signs “unattractive or an eyesore” and if we don’t comply, you tattle to the county. Quite frankly, the county could care less what signs go up as long they get their tax revenue.

I hope small business owners in this town will stand up to your bullying. I don’t intend to participate in your anti-Fallbrook, anti-small-business campaign and will continue to advise my clients to ignore you. We have rights too, whether you like it or not.

I would like to make a motion here for a recall election. Do I hear a second?
