Golden Bough to perform in-house concert

FALLBROOK — Golden Bough, the internationally known Celtic trio that has pleased Fallbrook audiences before, will give a repeat performance Friday, August 24, at 7:30 p.m. in the intimate setting of the home of Ken and Phee Graydon.

“Folk music events always benefit from the comfort of a house concert setting over that of a fellowship or concert hall, and in folk music circles it is possible to perform nationwide in private homes,” said Phee, Fallbrook Americana Music Series (FAMS) co-chairman.

“Celtic” is usually thought of as Irish and Scottish but is, in fact, the culture of an indo-European people that includes Irish, Scotch, Welsh, Bretons and Spanish Galatians. These people developed a vigorous culture with distinctive art forms, dance, music and rhythms. Margie Butler and Paul Espinoza, husband and wife, co-founded the group in 1980 and have toured 27 years with the spectrum of Celtic music and rhythms as their specialty. Butler on harp and Espinoza on mandolin have been joined in recent years by Kathy Sierra on fiddle.

Golden Bough began as street and small club performers in Europe. Their schedule quickly blossomed into major tours of cities in North America, Europe and Japan. They have appeared at the Belfast International Festival and the Edinburgh Frynge. During the course of their music career, they have produced 14 CDs.
