Don't call Jackie a 'rock star'

You must know that there are a lot of people in addition to the artists that contribute their skills and efforts to building the local music community and our readers deserve to hear those perspectives. So this week I am interviewing

Jackie Findl the Studio/Booking Manager for The Underground Recording Studio.

Since Jackie has been professionally booking local and touring bands for the last 5 years, I thought I might get some interesting insider info on rock stars, music business, and production/recording. What follows are some interesting insights she has into the local scene.

Here is some background on Jackie: Getting an early start in high school, she was responsible for setting up shows for the city of Temecula at the Community Recreation Center. Then she went on to work as booking manager/tour manager for Full Value Entertainment. After doing that for over a year she decided to go out on her own and start her own business. She created Sound Promotions and partnered up with Exodus Clothing to book shows at the Temeku Theatre. Late 2006 she was brought in as Studio/Booking Manager for The Underground Recording Studios, where they record and produce bands, as well as provide rehearsal space. They are also launching a live TV show where they will be playing music videos and interviews from local bands. You can see a trailer at http://www.theundergroundlive.com

AR: Are “rock stars” really as cool as everyone makes them out to be?

JF: No. They are not. There are cool band guys and then there are “rock stars”, who I want nothing to do with. I like cool bands who are fun and appreciative of shows they get. Any promoter will know what I mean. A “rock star” is someone who thinks they are the s___, anything they say is right.

AR: So basically you think you are cooler then a rock star?

JF: Yes.

AR: What is so cool about you?

JF: Everything.

AR: Um, how about we stop with the one word answers and try being specific.

JF: “Hey Tim, what’s cool about me?” Tim (drummer for Waking Ashlend): “nothing”.

JF: I guess nothing.

AR: What do you think the Temecula music scene needs?

JF: Temecula is in need of a REAL venue that can handle big bands and is dedicated strictly to live music.

AR: What about the Vault?

JF: Like I said, We need a real venue that is not run by a [sorry folks I cant print this cause its just too dang rude]. We need a venue that is run by people that know what they are doing. That won’t keep getting shut down because they can’t get the right permits or can’t control little arguments in the parking lot. They also need a lot more touring bands and actual talented musicians who know what they are doing to play there. Also, over the years I have noticed that there is not that much of a variety here. A lot of the local bands hate playing here because it is always the same s___. But we do get some bands in [our studio] that are cool.

Part 2 of Don’t call Jackie a “rock star” interview that was rejected for print and only included online.

Let me just say that Jackie is an awesome person. But if you want to ask her what her problem is, see contact info at the bottom of the article.

AR: Hey if you don’t like this question just tell me and I’ll..

JF: I don’t like it.

AR: I haven’t even asked it yet.

JF: Ok just hurry up and ask it already

AR: umm…

JF: God, would you ask the question already? AR: Yeah, if you would shut your dirty mouth, you just made me lose my train of thought…Now I can’t even remember what I was going to ask you.

JF: Good, it was probably a stupid question anyway

[writers note: I never ask stupid interview questions]

AR: Ok you want a smart question? Why don’t you tell us what presidential candidate you think looks best for 2008?

JF: Myself.

AR: What qualities do you feel makes you the best presidential choice?

JF: Dude this is a stupid question. Make sure you put that in there too, due to the stupidity of the question I cannot answer it.

AR: Well I have to put some sort of answer.

JF: Just say that I am 20 years old, I am single, I like long walks on the beach, horseback riding and I like music and seafood. I also like clubbing… baby seals.

AR: Yeah, that’s awesome, let's tell people how generic and immature you are. What else do you want to say?

JF: You’re an a__hole

[writers note: I am definitely not an a__hole]
