How to get the most of our church service

We desire to be part of an

exciting church. To have a church

that meets the needs of everyone

involved is important and possible.

It involves working to add several

principles.

• Worship - is to glorify Jesus

who transforms us. It is to give

“Worth” to the Godhead. Col.

3:17 says, “Whatever you do,

whether in word or deed, do it

all in the name of the Lord Jesus,

giving thanks to God the Father

through Him.” (NIV)

• Prayerful Attitude - must be

maintained and taught from

childhood. In Matt 21:13, Jesus

says, “It is written…My house will

be called a house of prayer…”

(NIV)

• Cheerfulness - is a result

of knowing, anticipating an

experience with God, sensing His

Presence in our church. Paul says

in Phil. 4:4, “Rejoice in the Lord

always!” and in 1 Thess. 5:16, he

says, “Be joyful always.” Can you

imagine if all church attendees

would practice this principle, how

much we would receive from a

service?

• Loving Attitude – love flows

with no respect to persons. People

are accepted regardless of dress,

nationality or social strata. 1 John

3:11, says, “This is the message

you heard from the beginning;

we should love one another.” In

John 13: 34-35, it is written, “A

new command I give you: Love

one another. As I have loved you,

so you must love one another.

By this all men will know that

you are my disciples, if you love

one another.” And James says,

“My brothers, as believers in our

glorious Lord Jesus Christ, don’t

show favoritism…” (James 2:1

(NIV)

• Submitting to One Another

– this principle is vital for our

churches today. We must apply

this in our own lives, inside as

well as outside of the church.

It is important to new believers

and children to submit to their

church’s authority. This is a hard

one for all of us. But, 1 Peter 2:13,

states “Submit ourselves for the

Lord’s sake to every authority

instituted among men.” Then in

1 Peter 5:5, he says, “Young men,

in the same way be submissive to

those who are older. All of you,

clothe yourselves with humility

toward one another because ‘God

opposes the proud but gives grace

to the humble...’”

• Hospitality – everyone must feel

wanted. In each one of us in that

uniqueness with which God has

gifted us. We enjoy church service

when we sense others are pleased

that we have attended.

The writer of Hebrews 13

says, “Do not forget to entertain

strangers, for by so doing some

People have entertained angels

without knowing it.” Peter said,

“Offer hospitality to one another

without grumbling.” (1 Peter

4:9)

principles. But if we apply

these six components within our

churches,

people—not only attendees but

also visitors.
