Skate park meeting well attended

FALLBROOK — More than 50 Fallbrook and Bonsall residents attended the August 13 meeting at the Community Senior Center to show support for the proposed Fallbrook Skate Park.

The meeting was held as an open discussion for the residents to review the current plans for the skate park and to discuss ideas and goals to complete the project. An additional meeting was held for the members of the board on August 20 and a community meeting will follow on September 17.

The Fallbrook Skate Park has been in the planning stages for more than five years. The group has established a 501C3 nonprofit organization status and has raised approximately $12,000. (While the Senior Center is allowing the group use of the facility, it does not have any involvement in Fallbrook Skate Park, Inc.)

“The feeling of excitement from the adults and children at the meeting was overwhelming,” said Mandy Miller, a member of the Fallbrook Skate Park planning committee. “Many great ideas were discussed. This project can become a reality if the parents and kids continue to work together to accomplish the goal.”

On August 20, the board of directors discussed forming committees to handle the various tasks ahead. Among others, a fundraising committee and a public awareness committee will be formed. The board will also work on updating the business plan.

“It is very important that the kids have a safe place to skate,” stated planning committee member Bondy Miller. “Skaters who are chased out of parking lots and given tickets for skateboarding are not offered any alternative. These are our children and members of the community; let’s get them off the streets.”

“Business owners at the meeting offered support in the form of donating percentages of profit and construction material. The kids had great fundraising ideas and we look forward to getting those rolling,” added Mandy.

The Fallbrook Skate Park Committee welcomes new members and would love the opportunity to speak to local clubs and organizations. Donations and correspondence can be sent to Fallbrook Skate Park, c/o Mandy Miller, 724 Reche Way, Fallbrook, CA 92028.
