Fallbrook has some very fine letter writers

If you want to know what people in Fallbrook are thinking, you read the letters to the editor of the Village News. Because Fallbrook has so many skilled writers, I anticipate the arrival of the Village News every Thursday. The August 9 edition was perhaps the best collection of letters ever.

Jack Ragland’s letter, “Everyone should say ‘NO!’ to proposed Liberty Quarry,” proves that our most eminent local artist is a skilled writer also. His painting of the Santa Margarita Ecological Reserve articulates a deep spiritual profoundness of why he is opposed to the beastly intrusion of a giant mining operation here.

Jerry Arganda’s letter, “Breathing may be hazardous to your health,” presented another powerful reason our community must oppose this giant quarry intrusion: the pollution and silica dust which cause dangerous health problems, such as silicosis.

Robert F. Green, a prolific writer, has been one of my favorites for years. Robert is from the old school of scholarly and tolerant Republicans, whose ideas demonstrate pragmatism and insight. His letters radiate with historical wisdom, reminding us always of the pitfalls and dangers of empire against individual rights and liberties.

Gene and Deborah Zinn’s letter about the sad destruction of their beautiful tree touched many of us in Fallbrook who love and our respect our trees. Trees are indeed wonderful companions and I felt the Zinns’ sorrow and shared their anger.

My personal favorite letter, however, was penned by Bonnie Wright. She wrote the letter I had attempted to write, but words failed me. They did not fail Bonnie at all. With a sharp pen, she devastated and exposed the partisan pettiness of a previous writer’s diatribe. Where did Bonnie learn this fine of fencing with boors? Touché!
