Last updated 8/30/2007 at Noon

The Fallbrook Art Association’s first general meeting of its new year will feature Santa Monica artist Shirley Cannon at 7 p.m. on September 10 at the Hilltop Center, 331 East Elder.

There will be an informal “Eat ’n Critique” session from 5:30 until 6:30 p.m. Participants in the critique are encouraged to bring one or two “paintings in progress” plus a snack or box dinner to eat during the session. Refreshments will be served following the meeting. The meeting and critique session are open to the public at no charge.

Membership applications are available at all meetings. For more information about membership, contact Bill Rupp at (760) 723-6624.

Shirley Cannon is an abstract artist who paints imagined forces of nature, large, mysterious and loosely textured. She includes collage to show the visceral beauty as well as the desecration of the earth. She works with oil and mixed media with the precision of famed artist Rene Magritte. Sometimes a painting takes as long as two years to complete.

In addition to demonstrating at the meeting, Cannon will hold a workshop from 9:30 a.m. until 3:30 p.m. September 16 at the Fallbrook Public Utilities Department building, 900 East Mission. For cost and more information about the workshop, contact Joan Nied at (760) 451-1591 or [email protected]
