Schuveiller named Warriors' new baseball coach

Jesse Schuveiller was named Fallbrook High School’s new varsity head baseball coach August 10.

Schuveiller, who was an assistant coach on the 2007 varsity team, replaces Matt Parker as the Warriors’ head coach. “Just very excited for the opportunity,” he said.

Schuveiller, who teaches English at Fallbrook High School, began his fourth year at the school when the academic year commenced August 20. He has also been an assistant coach on the Warriors’ freshman and junior varsity baseball teams during his Fallbrook High School career.

Schuveiller was born in Australia but attended high school in Encinitas. He is a 1994 graduate of San Dieguito High School, where he was a relief pitcher, infielder, and outfielder on the baseball team. He played junior college baseball before suffering a shoulder injury.

“My injuries prevented me from playing any more baseball,” Schuveiller said. “I started getting into coaching.”

He returned to San Dieguito High School as an assistant coach under head varsity coach Matt Chess, who was also the Mustangs’ coach when Schuveiller played. He left both coaching and San Diego County to take a position with the San Francisco Giants. His job with the Giants organization included player development, scouting, business development with minor league affiliates, and marketing.

Schuveiller, who earned a degree at Cal Poly San Luis Obispo, spent three years with the Giants before leaving the Bay Area to pursue teaching and coaching. His first position upon his return to San Diego County was with La Costa Canyon High School, whose head varsity coach was Justin Machado. Schuveiller’s first head coaching position was with the Mavericks’ freshman team, and he was also an assistant junior varsity coach for La Costa Canyon.

Schuveiller left La Costa Canyon when a teaching position at Fallbrook High School became available. “I knew Matt Parker real well, and he was real excited to have me come on board,” Schuveiller said.

After two years at the lower levels, Parker invited Schuveiller to be an assistant varsity coach in 2007. Schuveiller was the pitching coach and also helped with infielders and outfielders.

“I feel that working for Coach Chess, Coach Machado, and Coach Parker over the last eight years [not including his three with the Giants] has really trained me very well to take over this position,” Schuveiller said of his first varsity coaching job. “Just learning from, I think, three amazing North County high school baseball coaches has just prepared me the right way.”

Schuveiller is also relying on his three previous years of familiarity with the Warrior baseball program. “Just super excited about the opportunity and I’m so excited to work with the community of Fallbrook,” he said. “Even though it is a small town, it doesn’t take away from the tremendous amount of love and support they give to their team.”
