Tully earns third straight top-ten finish

Brian Tully finished tenth in the Perris Auto Speedway’s Street Stocks main event August 11, giving him his third consecutive top-ten finish.

“It was pretty wild, a couple of wrecks and stuff, but pretty exciting. Came out good,” Tully said.

The Fallbrook driver began the 20-lap main event in the seventh row before finishing tenth among the 20 cars competing in the feature. Tully began the six-lap heat race in the second row and finished fifth out of seven cars. “The track was really dried out again,” he said. “The car was really loose. I had to keep from spinning out a couple of times.”

Tully and his crew guessed the track conditions for the main event. “We had just enough change in our stagger to tighten the car up,” he said.

Tully – and most of the other drivers – had to rely on the low and middle grooves. “The upper track went away,” he said.

Tully fell to 15th when a lapped car blocked the track and he had to slow to avoid a collision. “Worked my way back up again,” he said.

The main event included three yellow flag cautions. “We barely missed a couple of accidents,” Tully said.

Barely missing was good enough. “I was able to put the car on the trailer. I didn’t hit anything,” Tully said.

The top-ten finish was the fifth of the year for Tully as well as his third consecutive one. “We’re just trying to break into the top five,” he said.
