Angel Shop volunteers dress up donated treasures

Recently, some National Charity League members – Emma Bednarski, Miasha Williams and Caroline Linardos – were helping out in the Angel Shop when some dolls were donated. As the dolls were donated sans clothing, Billie Foli, director in charge, asked the girls to use their fashion expertise to dress the dolls with clothing from the shop racks.

There was a touch of sadness when the dolls were ready to be displayed for sale, but when cashier Donna Barton reported that they had been purchased for two little sisters, the crew for the day was delighted.

However, the story does not end there. Later, as Kelly Bednarski and her daughter Emma and niece Caroline were sitting at a sidewalk café in Fallbrook, they noticed four children with their mother, who was pushing a stroller carrying two smiling dolls. Obviously, the toys had found a happy home.

Emma and Caroline hope that whoever donated the dolls will read this story. This is one of the many stories with a happy ending for the “treasures” donated to the Angel Shop.

The Angel Society has been delighted to have mother/daughter teams from the National Charity League helping their volunteer workers in the busy shop workroom. They have also allowed other qualified youngsters to donate community service hours.

Emma, who has spent many volunteer hours in the shop as part of the National Charity League program, said this was a highlight of her volunteer experience. It was a first-time volunteer experience for Caroline and Miasha, who agreed that it was a lot of fun and they felt that working with the Angel volunteers was a good experience.

Emma and Caroline’s grandmother, the late Barbara Aspel, was one of the founding members of the Angel Society. This is just one example of families in the community who have supported this organization through the years.
