Cleanup Day includes two sites in De Luz

The 23rd annual California Coastal Cleanup Day event will be held on Saturday, September 15. The event, which is organized by I Love a Clean San Diego (ILACSD) and San Diego Coast Keepers, encompasses all of San Diego County.

Also sponsored by ILACSD is the Kids Second Annual Coloring Contest for grades K-6. For more information, and to register, go to http://www.cleanupday.org.

There will be three registered sites in this area and several special venues. Two of these sites will be in the De Luz area of Fallbrook. Local volunteers who want to help with that cleanup effort can check in at either of the following locations.

Volunteers meeting at Welburn Gourd Farm, located at 40653 De Luz Road, will begin at 9 a.m. Saturday and work “until done.”

Volunteers meeting at Daily Road and Jones in the De Luz Heights area will work Saturday and Sunday from 9 a.m. to dusk.

De Luz volunteers will be cleaning up dumped appliances, furniture, construction materials and other trash that has accumulated along the creeks and roadsides and are welcome to spend as much time as they can spare anytime during the weekend. They should wear long-sleeved shirts, long pants and a hat and bring water, lunch and sunscreen.

And, for adult De Luz volunteers, there will be a raffle of tickets to SeaWorld, Birch Aquarium and Hornblower Cruises.

The third cleanup area, sponsored by Keep Fallbrook Clean and Green, will be in Fallbrook proper. Check-in will be at the library parking lot.

Those interested in joining the cleanup effort are encouraged to pre-register online at http://www.cleanupday.org and bring their signed waivers to check-in.
