Adult Day Care Center helps families breathe a sigh of relief

The Fallbrook Healthcare Foundation understands that being a full-time caregiver is exhausting work, so they created a program to help caregivers: the Fallbrook Adult Day Care Center. “We are here to give caregivers worry-free respite care,” said administrator Teddie Borges.

The center, otherwise fondly referred to as “The Club,” is a clean and friendly facility that exudes genuine warmth to frail or mentally impaired adults and seniors. The Club’s motto, said Borges, is “Safe, Stimulated and Sanitary.”

The Club’s large activity room has natural light cascading through its windows, accentuating the lovely floral wallpaper that decorates its walls. Comfy reclining chairs are scattered on side of the room, offering immediate rest and relaxation for its members.

A full-kitchen facility located in the corner of the activity room is the afternoon destination for cooking classes. “Whatever we make for a cooking class in the afternoon is usually our p.m. snack,” shared Borges.

Fun cooking classes aren’t the only activity at The Club. Art and crafts, sing-alongs, games, horseshoes, current event discussions and music appreciation are just a handful of the interesting agenda items offered.

A popular sport includes bowling, in which members toss a rubber ball into a group of oversized bowling pins.

“I’d like it better if the bowling ball was heavier,” said club member Fenton Stuck, who always aims for a strike. Aside from the weight of the ball, however, he thinks The Club is a great place. “The people here are so friendly.”

Special entertainment has also been on the roster at The Club. Performances by the Fallbrook Chorale, local dance groups and Pacific Animal Productions have been thoroughly enjoyed by the members.

Borges’ son, Jackson, a concert organist and pianist, has also performed a mini-concert for the members. During this extraordinary musical treat, Borges’ friend, a professional opera singer, performed alongside him.

Caregivers have true peace of mind knowing that their loved ones are looked after at The Club. Tom Fitzpatrick brings his wife, Carole, three afternoons a week.

“This place is a Godsend. Teddie runs a great operation here,” said Fitzpatrick with a grateful undertone in his voice.

Two days per week, Petrina Cammarata brings her mother, Jackie, to The Club so she can socialize and have a good time. “I love this place and the staff is great,” enthused Cammarata.

Caregivers like Fitzpatrick and Cammarata are relieved to know that help is just a phone call away. The Club invariably helps caregivers breathe a sigh of relief, knowing that staffers can lend them a helping hand.

If transportation is a challenge, The Club also offers safe, reputable van service.

The staff at The Club love what they do, said Borges. This is why their teamwork is so cohesive and caring. For Borges, working at the facility is a personal mission: “This is where I belong. The [members] become a part of your heart and soul.”

The Fallbrook Adult Day Center is always in need of volunteers. The facility is located at 320 West Alvarado Street. For more information, including its hours and days of operation, Borges can be reached at (760) 723-0890.
