Replace library card this month for free

In celebration of National Library Card Sign-up Month, the San Diego County Library system invites San Diegans to visit their local library and sign up for a free customer card – the smartest card one can carry, providing free entry to a world of ideas in books, magazines, DVDs, CDs and specialized online information sources.

Customers who already have a card with the San Diego County Library system can have their lost, stolen, damaged and older-style library cards replaced and updated without charge throughout the month of September. There is normally a $2 charge for a replacement card.

The current full-color customer card includes a second handy keychain mini card. “Library staff have been able to reunite a number of grateful customers with their car and house keys by tracking the customer barcode ID numbers on the keychain cards that were part of lost sets of keys,” said circulation services manager Bertha Huertero.

As an additional promotion, all County Library locations will waive fines on overdue materials returned during a specially designated “happy hour,” Friday afternoon, September 28, from 2 to 5 p.m.
