Fallbrook resident arrested for car theft

On the morning of September 25, a female resident of Fallbrook was arrested for suspicion of car theft.

“A female stole a 2001 Toyota truck, and when she left the scene, she got into an accident about four blocks away from where she stole the vehicle,” said Detective Leo Rodrigues.

Following the minor collision, which occurred on South Mission Road in the vicinity of Los Jilgueros Preserve, the suspect was spotted by Deputy Roy Mayne. She was walking in the 2100 block of South Mission.

When questioned by Mayne, the suspect said the truck belonged to her spouse. After verifying that this statement was false, the suspect was taken into custody.

Additionally, an eye witness to the accident identified the suspect as the individual in the stolen vehicle.

Authorities reported that the collision involved another vehicle and that the individual in that vehicle sustained minor injuries, complaining of neck and back pain.

The truck was stolen at a place of business in the 1300 block of South Mission.

“The victim left the keys in the ignition of the vehicle,” said Rodrigues. “[The suspect] noticed that the keys were in this particular vehicle, jumped in and took off.”

A Fallbrook couple, while walking their dog in Los Jilgueros Preserve at the time of the incident, was approached by two teenagers. The teens asked, “Hey, did you see that lady up there? She was in an accident and she just walked away.” The youths also said that the woman was talking to herself.

While still on their walk, the couple saw the woman the teens were talking about being taken into custody.

“She had her arms behind her back,” the woman said. “I noticed her, particularly because her dress was so peculiar, in my view. The large-framed suspect was scantily dressed in a denim mini skirt, bikini top and open vest.”

Rodriguez reports that the female suspect remains in custody.
