Let the people in Iraq fashion their own destiny

Talk about “spin doctors!” The rationale put forth by the Bush administration and their military “spokespersons” for “staying the course” in Iraq is quite ingenious!

Pulling the troops out now is looked upon as being tantamount to “surrender,” according to their twisted logic. They would have us believe that a US withdrawal would trigger a “bloodbath” – and that as “good Americans” we can’t allow that to happen.

What unmitigated rubbish! In the first place, the death and destruction we have wrought upon the people of Iraq was, and still is, a “bloodbath” of huge proportion. And it’s one of our own making!

We began this sad chapter in US history some four and a half years ago, based upon lies and outright deceit, and have been adding to this crime against humanity ever since. Why, oh why, can’t we dredge up the moral courage to admit this tragic error and acknowledge that the only factions gaining anything out of this mess are the US defense industry and the State of Israel?

I think we should pull out now and let the people of Iraq fashion their own destiny – whatever that might be. Such an ignoble cause is certainly not worth one of the many US lives lost there, and still being lost there.
