Warriors overpowered by Titans, 35-6

On Friday, September 28, the Fallbrook Warriors traveled to Poway to face-off against the number three-ranked Titans. The Warriors played the ranked opponent tough but were beaten and lost 35-6. Overall the Warrior defense played decent, but the offense was overmatched and did not gain many yards.

Michael Leonard was the starting quarterback for the Warriors and tried to spark the offense. However, he was under constant pressure by the Titan defense, which caused him to run the majority of the time. Leonard seemed to turn most of the “should be” sacks into short gains after the pocket collapsed as he ran for 83 yards during the game.

The running game was led by Dewayne Mitchell, who had a few good runs, but the offense only found the end zone one time. This score for the Warriors was earned by Mitchell from nine yards out. This touchdown had been set up by the Fallbrook defense recovering a fumble.

The Warrior defense kept the team in the game. They made a phenomenal goal line stand and contained the explosive Titans to only 14 points in the first half. There were great plays by Joe Burke, who intercepted the ball, and Colin Perry, who earned a sack. In the second half, the defense tired as they were on the field for the majority of the time. Warrior defense made several sacks and forced fumbles, yet the offense could not convert.

Overall, this game showed the Fallbrook coaches the team has the potential to stick with the big boys if they improve the offense and keep mistakes to a minimum. The team will face Rancho Bernardo next.

Junior varsity wins

The junior varsity team also faced the Titans and defeated the opponent by a score of 17-13. The team trailed at one point, but after the defense shut them down, the Warrior offense maintained the ball and ran out the clock. The team was led by running back Josh Campos in the fourth quarter as he punished the Titans.

The team, coached by Greg Madden, improved their record to 4-0. The junior varsity team continues their search for the perfect season.

The next game is this Friday, October 5, at Warrior Stadium and it will be Homecoming night! A big crowd typically turns out for Homecoming, so come early and watch the junior varsity (5 p.m.) and varsity (7:30 p.m.) lead the town of Fallbrook to success. Go Warriors!
