AAUW presenting mahjong tourney

If you hear a noisy clickety-clack sound on Friday, October 19, it is not the usual helicopter noise you might expect. No, it’s just the sound of mahjong tiles as the Fallbrook Branch of the American Association of University Women (AAUW) gathers players for another mahjong tournament.

Each year the branch offers players the chance to compete for prizes and have a jolly good time playing, eating and enjoying the company of other aficionados of the game.

Tournament coordinators Barbara Loehnert and Araxy Moosa have been gathering an assortment of prizes, including a charming quilt made by Araxy as grand prize. Low scorers and high scorers get prizes, too.

For reservations to play, call Loehnert at (760) 723-0357 or Moosa at (760) 723-2262 as soon as possible.

The tournament will be held at the Fallbrook Public Utility building, 990 East Mission, Friday, October 19, at 12:30 p.m. Games will commence at 1 p.m.

Refreshments are included. Proceeds go to local educational programs sponsored by AAUW.
