Remarkable homes comprise Velvet Cat Home Tour

Some very remarkable homes will be featured in the Fallbrook Woman’s Club’s Velvet Cat Home Tour, which will be held Saturday, October 20, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Each of the homeowners will showcase unique items of décor.

The first home featured, “Vantage Place,” is a collector’s paradise with an art studio boasting stained glass windows and a guest room housing an extensive collection of dolls from various countries. In the living room hang tapestries from France. The owner has also draped brocade material artistically between the windows, giving it a gothic appearance.

Hand-carved wooden pieces from Nigeria and a number of Russian stacking dolls from St. Petersburg comprise only part of the homeowner’s eclectic collection. Several items from Norway – including a reindeer hide and her grandmother’s spinning wheel and oven – bring a little bit of Scandinavia to the home.

Another home, called “Mid-Pointe” because it lies on a family estate with other homes, has a French country estate feel to it. This home also has a Murano glass chandelier from Venice, Italy. This couple has designed and built their home and lovingly selected all of the furnishings. Of particular interest is a solid brass 1817 chandelier from St. Phillip in the Field church in Littleton, CO, which is the owner’s former church.

Mid-Pointe also has an old-fashioned-looking claw-foot bathtub as well as glue-chip bathroom windows. Glue-chip windows are made from an opaque glass that resembles ice crystals.

The home has muted tones of light green floral print in the living room and arched French doors. The windows are arched as well and lend a great deal of light.

The home, a “’50s Makeover,” is a work in progress but is almost complete and will celebrate its 50th birthday this year, according to the owner. It also has a French country feel to it and a sweeping view of Palomar Mountain, the Temecula area and Oceanside. The master bath boasts a black insulated bathtub, which keeps the water warm for more than an hour.

A unique kitchen hutch decorated with roosters was purchased from Tom’s Farms in Lake Elsinore, which is a farmer’s market. A colorful pool table room makes use of bold red walls and a black ceiling. Red is the dominant color in this room.

This estate has several flowing fountains, a peaceful koi pond and also boasts palm trees that have been grown by the owner’s son.

So, whether your interest lies in French country, modern bold colors or antiques, there will be something to strike your fancy at the Velvet Cat Home Tour!

Proceeds from the tour go to charity. For further information, please call (760) 728-3866. Also, tickets will be available at the Fallbrook Woman’s Club at 238 West Mission on the day of the event.
