Pastors and others remain calm during church crisis

On Sunday, October 7, an SUV was driven through the wooden front doors of Christ The King Lutheran Church during the 10:30 a.m. worship service, stopping at the threshold. No one was injured, but the situation could have been catastrophic. God protected the congregation.

Pastor Phil Tukua, who was preaching his sermon at the time, calmed the congregation and led them in a prayer for the driver and the situation. He then went on to finish preaching a wonderful sermon.

Pastor Mark Johnson, the church ushers and others went into action immediately and by the time the service was over the SUV had been removed, the massive broken doors carried off, and the congregation was able to exit the church through the front entryway.

I applaud the pastors, ushers and members of Christ The King who responded with cool heads and Christian compassion in a situation that could have easily become panic-ridden.
