Program started for disposal of large household items

FALLBROOK — Keep Fallbrook Clean and Green (KFCG) announces the establishment of a free coupon/voucher program for downtown residents of multiunit apartment complexes and trailer parks to dispose of large, unwanted household items such as sofas, beds, dressers and other similar items, free of charge.

The coupon/voucher entitles an eligible resident to take one free truckload of three to four large and bulky unwanted household items to Fallbrook Waste and Recycling at 550 West Aviation Road.

The voucher program has been made possible by a grant from Fifth District Supervisor Bill Horn, through his Discretionary Project Fund, to assist low-income residents of Fallbrook in disposing of their unwanted large household items.

The first 100 residents who call (760) 728-1816 may obtain a coupon/voucher from KFCG. The coupon/voucher, good for 30 days, will be mailed to the caller, who must then provide proof of residency in the targeted area when they bring their items to Fallbrook Waste and Recycling.

Fallbrook Waste and Recycling will verify, with a picture ID containing current address, that the driver of the truck is the same person as the one identified on the coupon/voucher. Coupon-holders who overload their truck with more than four items will be charged the regular disposal fee, less the $30 value of the coupon.

All residents of multiunit apartments or trailer parks in the downtown Fallbrook area (the area bordered by Hillcrest Lane on the north, Stage Coach on the east, Reche/Palomino on the south and Alturas on the west) are eligible to participate in the program.

Eligible items include household furniture – such as beds, mattresses and box springs, carpeting, sofas, tables (remove legs), chairs, desks and all other similar furniture items – and appliances such as refrigerators, stoves, washing machines, hot water heaters/softeners, air conditioners and similar. Only residential items will be accepted.

No construction debris, business items, tires, household hazardous waste, electronic waste, microwaves, green waste or small items that would ordinarily fit into a standard (35-gallon) household trash container will be accepted.
