Field hockey wins first two league matches

Fallbrook High School’s field hockey team won both its league opener and its first league match at home.

The Warriors opened league play October 4 with a 3-1 win at Rancho Buena Vista and earned a 2-0 home win October 10 against Vista.

“We’ll see how we do,” said Fallbrook coach Kathy Waite.

The Warriors scored two goals in the first eight minutes at Rancho Bernardo and led 3-0 at halftime before the Longhorns scored a second-half goal. The match against Vista was tied at halftime before Katie Gangnath scored the game’s first goal with an assist from Liz Green and Devon Holman parlayed assists from Gangnath and Emily Badilla into what would stand as a two-goal lead.

The league match was also Fallbrook’s first league contest on the synthetic turf. “Nice to play on the turf, I’ll tell you that,” Waite said. “RBV’s got turf, so every league game we play in October is on turf.”

The two league wins improved Fallbrook’s overall record to 7-6-1.
