Warriors pierced by Longhorns 49-21

On October 12, the Fallbrook Warriors traveled to Rancho Buena Vista to try to defeat the No. 10 team in the county. The Warriors attempted this tough task and were unsuccessful, as the Longhorns defeated the Warriors 49-21. The Warriors were just overmatched on both sides of the ball as the Longhorns ran all over the defense and the offense was stymied.

The first quarter did not look good when the Warriors were stopped and on the first possession of the game, the Longhorns superstar running back took off for a 65-yard run for a touchdown. It was called back because of a penalty, but then on the second play he ran for a touchdown.

The Longhorns then thwarted the Warrior offense two more times and scored touchdowns on their possessions to make the score 21-0. The Warriors obtained the ball and earned a couple of first downs with a nice 18-yard catch by Marquis Sumpter from Michael Leonard but were forced to punt.

However, on the Longhorns’ next possession Cormac Keenan recovered a fumble, which set up a Warrior score. Leonard completed a 22-yard pass to Nick Hayes for a touchdown to make the score 21-7. Then, Rancho Buena Vista rebounded to earn 21 unanswered points, giving them a 42-7 lead going into halftime.

To begin the second half, the Longhorns reached the end zone once again with their first string before pulling them for the game. With a score of RBV 49, Fallbrook 7, the Warrior defense stopped RBV and a great punt return by Matthew Napier looked to set up Fallbrook for another touchdown. However, Fallbrook once again fell short.

The Warrior defense did not allow any more points and the Fallbrook offense earned two touchdowns led by Saber Youman (7 for 13, one touchdown, one interception). A 50-yard pass from Youman to Ben Gaffney put the ball in the end zone, making the score 49-13. A two-point conversion run by Jeremy Hanson was successful to give the Warriors 15.

After another good effort by the defense, the offense capitalized once again. A 13-yard scramble by Youman and a few crisp passes set up a one-yard run by Jeremy Hanson, which made the final score 49-21.

The varsity team has a tough road ahead of them as they face many ranked opponents. It is certain the Warriors will always give a good fight and will look to pull off some upsets. Next week, they will face the Vista Panthers in Vista at 7:30 p.m.

The junior varsity team has been doing a great job. The team beat Rancho Buena Vista and improved their record to 6-0. Come and see the future of Fallbrook football on Friday at Vista at 5 p.m.
