Fire evacuees directed to shelters in Temecula area

Evacuees fleeing fires in Riverside and northern San Diego counties are being directed to Red Cross shelters in the Temecula area. As of 3 p.m. today (10/23), evacuees should go to Temecula Valley High School at 31555 Rancho Vista Road (the cross street is Margarita).

Previously, evacuees had been sent to the Temecula Community Center, which was opened to serve residents displaced by the Roca Fire in Aguanga. As of 3 p.m., people needing shelter are being directed to Temecula Valley High School because the community center has reached capacity. A third shelter site will be designated to serve the stream of evacuees, which is expected to exceed available space at Temecula Valley High. The name and location of the third shelter site will be released in the next few hours.

Members of the public who need directions and other information about shelter locations should contact Daphne Berlin, the Red Cross public information officer, at (951) 775-4627.
