Mistaken evacuation order phoned to Temecula's Redhawk residents

An undetermined number of residents in the Redhawk area of Temecula might have received inaccurate orders to evacuate their homes Tuesday afternoon via an automated telephone alert system.

Riverside County learned of the inaccurate alert from concerned residents who called county officials after receiving the phone messages. Riverside County is among agencies in Southern California capable of sending the recorded phone messages but the county's system was not activated Tuesday and has not been used since fires broke out recently throughout the region.

County emergency-response officials were unable Tuesday to determine the exact source of the inaccurate messages. Residents in the Redhawk area should ignore the message that they received Tuesday afternoon.
