Deuling Construction: one remodel at a time

When homeowners hire Dennis Deuling, owner of Deuling Construction, for a project they can be assured they are hiring a licensed contractor who is talented, reliable, honest and conscientious.

Deuling Construction is different from many other companies in that it is not a large company with a high overhead. Instead, Deuling’s charges are more competitive. He places a high priority on providing his clients with personalized care.

“When you hire me, you get me from the beginning to the end. I’m there every day,” he says.

Deuling claims he disfavors overlapping jobs because he prefers his full attention going to a work in progress. “We do one job at a time,” he said.

He is also very time-oriented. “I want to start a job on time and finish when I say I’m going to finish it.”

Additionally, what sets Deuling apart from others in his field is his ability to do a remodel that looks natural. “I want a remodel to look like it was part of the original plan,” he said. “That’s the whole goal of a remodel.”

Deuling is known for his wall texturing style, known as the skip trowel system. This technique changes the appearance of a room into a masterpiece. Skip trowel is applied by hand, explained Deuling.

For Deuling, every homeowner has a vision of their remodel and he says it is his job to turn that vision into reality. “I like doing a job that creates an environment that enhances [clients’] lives,” he said.

Deuling believes in giving rooms distinctive lines and character. “I like to make things interesting.” His goal is to turn blasé into “wow.”

Deuling Construction does all types of remodeling work. Some of these include beautiful new skylights, changing out windows and doors or building stylish patios and decks.

“We are not just restricted to kitchens and bathrooms,” he explained. “We do a lot more than that.”

Deuling understands how tedious it can be for homeowners to find a general contractor, so he has some advice to share before they dive into that remodel. First, a contractor must be licensed, he noted. “Also, get references from that contractor,” said Deuling. “And get at least two bids.” If possible, personally seeing the jobs a contractor has completed can give a homeowner further insight.

Deuling has brought the same talented subcontractors onboard for projects for the last 15 to 20 years. “They are diligent and everyone knows their job.” Besides their talents, these subcontractors live locally. Deuling not only likes hiring people from town but uses local businesses, such as Pine Tree Lumber, Mostly Windows and Fallbrook Tile.

Deuling has been a licensed general contractor for nearly 30 years. As a young boy, he helped his father, also a licensed contractor, on various construction sites. “I use to work for a dollar a day when I was a kid,” he reminisced.

Through the years, Deuling has undoubtedly gained priceless contractor knowledge from which he can bring something uniquely different to each and every remodel.
