Redmon assumes command of Civil Air Patrol Squadron 87

FALLBROOK — Major Jim Redmon recently assumed the position of Unit Commander of Civil Air Patrol Fallbrook Senior Squadron 87 from Lt. Gerald Rohles.

As a Unit Commander, Major Redmon is responsible for the Squadron’s contribution to support the Civil Air Patrol’s three primary missions. First, promote aviation and aerospace education. Second, provide a training program to support the nation’s youth in contributing to society and preparing for successful adult lives. Finally, emergency services, the work for which Civil Air Patrol is best known.

Major Redmon grew up in Houston, TX, and went on to graduate from Texas College of Arts and Industries in 1965 with a bachelor of science in Electrical Engineering.

He joined the Marine Corps and was commissioned a second lieutenant in December 1965 and completed pilot training in 1967. He was assigned to Marine Fighter Squadron VMF (aw) 451 Beaufort, South Carolina flying the F8 Crusader. After the squadron transitioned to the F4 Phantom II, he was assigned to VMF 115 in Chu Lai, Vietnam in January 1969.

Major Redmon flew 175 combat missions and served as the Air Liaison Officer for the Second Battalion Third Marines.

After returning from Vietnam, he returned to his civilian occupation as an electrical engineer working for The Boeing Company. He graduated with a Masters in Business Administration in 1976 and retired as an engineering supervisor from Southern California Edison in July 2007. Currently he is working as a consulting engineer.

Redmon is married to wife, Nina, and the couple has two children, Rebecca and Mark. Rebecca is vice president of Innerface Architecture Signage and Mark is a senior systems analyst with Kelsey-Seybold.
