Lacrosse coach is honorable

As a Fallbrook High School lacrosse parent, I was deeply disturbed to read the front page article about the program in the Village News [October 11]. Your reporter chose to present the complaints of a few disgruntled parents and represent them as the opinion of the majority of the lacrosse parents. I understand that some parents would like to see Coach Schoffstall removed as the Fallbrook coach but I do not agree with their efforts. By printing this very onesided opinion, you enabled this group to slander the reputation of an outstanding teacher and a hardworking coach. Al Schoffstall has spent hundreds of hours trying to build a strong, character building lacrosse program at the high school.

My son and my family have had nothing but positive experiences with Coach Schoffstall’s program. Verbal and physical abuse? Extortion? These allegations are not only false but egregiously slanderous.

My family, including my son, was contacted several times at home in an attempt to get us to sign the petition to have Coach Schoffstall removed. We all felt that not only did the petition have no merit but that it would be a tremendous disservice to this team and to an honorable teacher and coach.

This group of parents has been successful at one thing: they have deeply divided the Fallbrook lacrosse community and, most importantly, the team.

Congratulations.
