Consumers urged to check freezers for tainted pizzas

The County of San Diego Department of Environmental Health is alerting local grocery stores and consumers about recalled frozen meat pizza products.

General Mills Operations in Ohio is voluntarily recalling several of its Totino’s and Jeno’s brand pizza products. According to the US Department of Agriculture Food and Safety Inspection Service, the products may be contaminated with E. coli O157:H7 and could be linked to an outbreak of illnesses in 10 states. No illnesses have been reported in California.

Each package has “EST. 7750” inside the USDA mark of inspection as well as a “best if used by” date on or before “02 APR 08 WS.” The products were produced on or before October 30. Consumers are urged to throw away products on the list.

Those with questions may contact the company’s Consumer Hotline at (800) 949-9055 or visit the USDA Food and Safety Inspection Service Web site at http://www.fsis.usda.gov.
