Celebrating Retired Teachers' Week Nov. 4-10

As Washington, DC, struggles to set standards for school improvement, let’s give them some help.

No Child Left Behind

(Football version)

1. All teams must make the state playoffs and all must win the championship. If a team does not win the championship, they will be on probation until they are the champions and coaches will be held accountable. If after two years they have not won the championship, their footballs and equipment will be taken away until they do win the championship.

2. All kids will be expected to have the same football skills at the same time even if they do not have the same conditions or opportunities to practice on their own. No exceptions will be made for a desire to perform or genetic abilities or disabilities of themselves or their parents.

3. All kids will play football at a proficient level!

(Doesn’t this make as much sense as the current NCLB rules?)

Last year the average schoolteacher spent $468 of his/her own money for student necessities – workbooks, pencils, paper – supplies that students could not afford. That’s a lot of money from the pockets of the most poorly paid teachers in the industrial world.

The average teacher works more hours in nine months than the average 40-hour employee does in a year.

Remember to thank a teacher!
