Zoofari animals survive evacuation

The staff of Zoofari safely and successfully evacuated and returned home 110 animals at their zoo in Bonsall, including an endangered African cheetah.

The Zoofari staff now knows how Noah felt. Two by two, owl monkeys, Siberian lynx, African servals, porcupines, bushbabies and more were evacuated from the Fallbrook/Bonsall area due to the Rice Canyon fire. Instead of a boat, however, an entourage of eight vehicles and staff, plus volunteers, evacuated to three safe havens in Vista.

Evacuations were lifted, the compound intact and, barring a few respiratory issues and stress-related issues, none are worse for the wear. Victor, the South African cheetah, took all in stride as he settled nicely into his transport cage in a cargo van.

Once home again, it was time for running and playing – obviously relieved to be home. Zoofari was very lucky; many others were not and the staff’s hearts go out to them.
